COMMON WALL A wall separating two living units.

TENANT In general, one who holds or possesses property, such as a life tenant or a tenant for years; commonly used to refer to a lessee under a lease.
NATIONAL ASSOCIATION OF REALTORS Formerly known as the National Association of Real Estate Boards (NAREB), it is the largest and most prestigious real estate organization in the world.
POINTS (OR DISCOUNT POINTS) Points are an up-front fee paid to the lender at the time that you get your loan. Each point equals one percent of your total loan amount. Points and interest rates are inherently connected: in general, the more points you pay, the lower the interest rate you get. However, the more points you pay, the more cash you need up front since points are paid in cash at closing.
FEDERAL TRADE COMMISSION (FTC) A federal agency created to investigate and eliminate unfair and deceptive trade practices in business.
BALLOON MORTGAGE Balloon mortgage loans are short-term fixed-rate loans with fixed monthly payments for a set number of years followed by one large final balloon payment ("the balloon") for all of the remainder of the principal. Typically, the balloon payment may be due at the end of 5, 7, or 10 years. Borrowers with balloon loans may have the right to refinance the loan when the balloon payment is due, but the right to refinance is not guaranteed.
CONVERTIBLE ARMS A type of ARM loan with the option to convert to a fixed-rate loan during a given time period.
DEVISE A transfer of real property under a will.
SEPTIC TANK A sewage settling tank in which part of the sewage is converted into gas and liquids before the remaining waste is discharged by gravity into a leaching bed underground.
MALL A landscaped public area set aside for pedestrian traffic.
